There has never been a time in the history of Saratoga when citizens, seeking to retain a quality livable environment, could ignore the decisions made by the Planning Commission, the City Council, West Valley College, neighboring cities, the County, the transit agencies, CalTrans, the Regional Agencies, our joint powers authorities, the solar power company we recently formed, private utilities, and the County Park Districts. Decisions by all of these interlocking jurisdictions bear a significant effect on the quality of our lives and affordability. This is a complex job for our Council, but also an important task for the citizens who chose to support council members from among the volunteers who offer their services.
Preserve Saratoga has been active in almost every City Council campaign since the mid 70’s, seeking out candidates, and supporting candidates. We have sponsored many forums for the community to hear for themselves what each candidate has to say. Preserve Saratoga has also undertaken a referendum to rescue the gift of the North Campus and sponsored a recall against one mayor.
Preserve Saratoga members have participated in 3 City land use initiatives, West Valley College Board campaigns and 3 College Bond Campaigns. We have actively participated in the California initiative to return land use decisions to the local jurisdictions and will again be working more on this initiative soon.
Over all these years several members who have contributed substantially to this effort have passed on. Among these were, just recently, the tragic loss of Jeffrey Schwartz, and earlier Victor Monia, Dr. Francis F, Stutzman, Dora Grens, Russ Crowther, and
Jim Shaw. Preserve Saratoga is still here, still includes some members going back to 1978. The work of being a Saratoga citizen continues, more important than ever.
The current Preserve Saratoga membership varies and numbers about 140 - 150 at any one time. All Saratoga residents are welcome to join.
